Organic WorldStatisticsRevisions data 2009

For some of the data as published in the 2011 edition of "The World of Organic Agriculture", data revisions have occured. These are listed below.

Portugal: Data on organic land, number of producers

In April 2011 the 2009 figures for Portugal were received. (In the 2011 edition of "The World of Organic Agriculture", the 2008 figures had been used). 

According to these data , there were 157'000 hectares or organic agricultural land (including conversion areas), and there were 1651 producers. Compared with the 2008 data, this constitutes a substantial decrease (26.7 percent less organic land). There were 4.4 percent of the agricultural land under organic management.

There have also been some minor revisions to the 2008 data. A table with the 2007 to 2009 data is below.

Ukraine: Revision of organic land area

In April 2011 a correction for the 2009 figure on organic agricultural land was received from Eurgen Milovanov of the Organic Federation of Ukraine (www.organic.com.ua/en). The correct figure is 270'193 hectares, constituting 0.65 percent of the agriculturl land.

Furthermore the wild collection area had been ommitted by mistake; it should read 200'000 hectares for 2009.

Vanuatu

(April 30, 2011) The share of organic land of the total agricultural land for 2007 should read 4.8 percent. According to the latest FAO statistics, published at FAOSTAT is as follows:

  • 2005: 183'000 hectares
  • 2006: 185'000 hectares
  • 2007: 187'000 hectares
  • 2008: 187'000 hectares
