60 percent of the U.S. certified organic fruit and vegetable area in California
Approximately 60 percent of U.S. certified organic fruit and vegetable acreage was in California in 2011. The top certifier of organic fruit and vegetable crops in California, California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), reports an 18 percent increase in certified organic fruit acreage between 2011 and 2014, to nearly 60,000 certified acres in 2014 (approx. 24,000 hectares). CCOF reports a 60 percent increase in vegetable acreage during this period, to nearly 136,000 acres (approx. 55,000 hectares) in 2014 (Source: CCOF Statistics at a Glance).
U.S. sales of organic fluid milk products increased 25 percent between 2010 and 2013
According to USDA's Federal Milk Marketing Statistics, the volume of U.S. sales of organic fluid milk products increased 25 percent between 2010 and 2013, to 2.3 million pounds (approx 1 million metric tons). The organic market share of U.S. fluid milk sales increased from 3.3 percent in 2010 to 4.4 percent in 2013, and was over 5 percent during the first half of 2014, see file " Estimated U.S. sales of organic and total fluid milk products, monthly and annual, 2006-13" at the organic prices page of the ERS website (link below). Data from the National Organic Producer Survey to be published soon
USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is conducting the 2014 National Organic Producer Survey as a follow-up to the 2012 Census of Agriculture, and it will publish results in August 2015. The 2014 Survey will included findings on organic production and marketing practices, the value of sales for various crop and livestock specialties, and other information about the U.S. organic farm sector. The latest U.S. figures on the organic area and producers based on certifier data are from 2011. These data were compiled by the Economic Research Service (ERS) of the United States Department of Agriculture USDA). The next data update has not yet been scheduled.
