A new country report about organic farming in Lithuania is available at the Organic-Europe.net website: Prof. Dr. Vytautas Pilipavicius of Aleksandras Stulginskis University has written a detailed report about the organic situation in his country.
The certified organic area in Lithuania has grown from 42,955 hectares in 2004 to 162,655 hectares in 2012.
The share of organically farmed land was 5.5% of the total agricultural area in 2012.
This substantial increase was promoted by the rural development programmes (2004-2006 and 2007-2013) of the Lithuanian government and the European Union after Lithuania joined the EU in 2004.
