15th Survey on organic agriculture worldwide has started

The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL, in collaboration with the and the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) has now started the 15th survey on organic agriculture world-wide in September and it is almost completed. The data collection is supported by the Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO) and the International Trade Centre ITC as well as Nürnberg Messe.

The results of the survey will be presented at BioFach in February 2014 in Nürnberg, Germany.

The annual survey on organic agriculture world-wide is carried out by FiBL and IFOAM. The Agronomic Institute of BARI IAMB has supports the survey by providing data from the Mediterranean countries. For the European data, synergies are also made with the European funded OrganicDataNetwork project (www.organicdatanetwork.net).

Questionnaire

Under the SECO-ITC project Global Information System for Organic Production and Market Data, a questionnaire was developed with a classification for land use and crops (very much based on the questionnaire which Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Commission, uses) as well as manufactured products. The data types collected include area, production, domestic market, and trade (export and imports). The questionnaire was programmed by flexinfo, a company that is specialised in data integration. Flexinfo has also programmed the Bioglobal database, in which the data are stored.
