Researchers from as far away as Washington State presented research on a range of organic farming topics. Sessions were held on soils; pest and weed management; wheat, vegetable and specialty crops; and economics.
One session was devoted to on-farm research projects. Another session encouraged farmers and researchers to brainstorm what research can be designed to address specific problems identified by organic farmers.
Researchers also presented over thirty posters that shared the results of pest management experiments, grazing systems, and innovations in farm equipment, among other topics. Among the highlights was a workshop on the reintroduction of bread wheat as a cash crop in the Northeastern United States; disease suppressive composts; and promising new disease resistant varieties that are in development. Presenters included professors, students and farmers.
The conference proceedings are available at the website of NOFA.
