Partners
The annual survey on organic agriculture world-wide is carried out by FiBL and IFOAM. FiBL is carrying out the overall survey; IFOAM is in charge of the data from sub-Saharan Africa and supports the data collection in South America through its Latin American office. Data collection activities are now beginning to be coordinated in Asia.
Ruta, the Regional Unit for Technical Assistance in Central America, has agreed to carry out the data collection for the eight countries where they are active.
The Agronomic Institute of BARI IAMB has supports the survey by providing data from the Mediterranean countries.
Questionnaire
Under the SECO/ITC project Global Information System for Organic Production and Market Data, a questionnaire was developed with a classification for land use and crops (very much based on the questionnaire which Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Commission, uses) as well as manufactured products. The data types collected include area, production, domestic market, and trade (export and imports). The questionnaire was programmed by flexinfo, a company that is specialised in data integration. Flexinfo has also programmed the Bioglobal database, in which the data are stored.
